Spode is England’s oldest pottery company, with a proud heritage that spans almost 200 years, making Spode a true British icon.
The most famous of Spode’s collections is the magical Blue Italian. Launched in 1816, this fascinating tableau, which may be found on dinner ware and accessories, has become the this celebrated brand’s signature and the demand for it keeps growing.
Created with some of the same techniques of the 1800s, Blue Italian adopts a detailed Imari Oriental border. – a pattern to be found in Japanese artworks. By contrast, this Asian frame encompasses a typical idyllic image of the Italian countryside as it would have looked when Blue Italian was first launched. All of this is set against a crisp white earthenware base, creating a perfect balance of these two colours.
