Spode is England’s oldest pottery company, with a proud and iconic heritage that spans back almost two hundred years. As such, Spode are proud to be considered a true British icon.

Perhaps the most famous of Spode’s collections has to be Blue Italian. Launched in 1816, this beautiful collection of blue and white dinnerware and dinner accessories has since become the pottery company’s signature release, continuing to grace homes right up to the present day.

Made using the same time-honoured techniques of the 1800s, Blue Italian adopts a detailed Imari Oriental border, a pattern found in Japanese works. By contrast, this Asian frame encompasses a typical idyllic image of the Italian countryside, as it would have looked when Blue Italian was first launched. All of this is set against a crisp white earthenware base, creating a perfect balance of these two colours.
